First of all, stay calm. Begin to explain what they’re doing right now is wrong. Explain it to them three times if you have to. Make them realise what the consequences are, and why they shouldn’t continue such behaviour.
One other method is to just ignore them. Sometimes, children seem to think that if they want something, they can get it by crying or overreacting. You have to remember that the control is in your hands, and not in theirs!
When you feel that you just can’t take control, don’t panic. Take a deep breath, count to 10, and remember: this is a temporary situation, and everything will get back to normal.
Use any techniques you know to calm yourself down first. Now you can be ready to continue to deal with the situation. It will be easier for you to handle it this way.
Don’t give out daily treats or presents if they don’t deserve it. Teach them the importance of hard work from the very beginning. That way, your children will understand that they can’t always have everything that they want. They will have to earn it.
